6 Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day During Coronavirus

This year more than ever is it imperative that we celebrate and recognise the contributions of our mothers. Prior to the current climate, their selfless sacrifice was highly admirable, however, this year they deserve a bit more love for their undying commitment and sacrifice.

1. A Bouquet of Flowers Says I Love You

A bit cliche, but there is nothing like a bouquet of flowers to tell mom that you love her. Nothing spruces up a home like a fresh, happy, effervescent bunch of seasonals which will surely put a smile on her dial. There are numerous florists that deliver and what better way to say, “I love you, mom,” than by adorning her with some fresh petals.

2. Send her a Video / V-Log, Facetime, Messenger, Whatsapp Audio

How much fun is it speaking with your mum online when you are apart? Mother’s love nothing more than being in touch with their kids and what better way to say, “G’day,” than to have a video chat.

Video chat platforms are ubiquitous and staying in touch has never been easier. I have found Facetime to be easiest for my parents as they both have iPhones, but if you have different operating systems you can always send a video via email, SMS or there are a multitude of other options.

3. A Voucher / Credit to Buy Something Online

What do you get the mother that has everything or you don’t know what to get her? There’s always a gift card! With drop shipments these days, parcels arrive at your door almost instantaneously.

An alternative is to go online shopping with her. Shop, browse, buy with her. Have fun, a few laughs and a cup of tea whilst you enjoy dreaming of where you will wear that new coat or when the next time she can wear that spritely blouse to her favourite restaurant.

4. Stream her Favourite Movies

Netflix, Stan, Youtube, there are a plethora of options to keep everyone entertained. What better way to spend time with mom than to make some popcorn, snuggle up and get cosy on the sofa watch her favourite flic?

Another option in the near future could be going to a drive-in movie? As of recent these once proud businesses have become the dinosaurs of the entertainment industry, but there has been a revival since the implementation of social distancing.

5. Plan a Picnic / Grazing Table

Now that restrictions on group gatherings have been eased to 10 people, why not go and enjoy a day at the park or beach? There are some great areas throughout Perth, Western Australia and Australia as a whole.

Kings Park, overlooking the CBD is an amazing vantage point. Take mom to the lush green grass near the cenotaph or find a quiet, secluded area to have a private picnic.

If you are not keen to go to the super market to source your own picnic ingredients, there are some great businesses that would love to cater for you. What a better way to celebrate the woman you love and support the local economy.

6. Make a list of Chores you will Complete for a Month

“Take out the trash, do the dishes, clean your room.” Sound familiar? It does to me. Why not give your mother a list of chores that you intend to do religiously for the next month and then after that month is over, continue to do them?

A mum’s job is the hardest on the planet and our mothers are not given enough credit for their efforts. It wasn’t until I was older that I realised the torment (and joy) that we provide our parents.

So as an act of good faith and love, write down 10 chores that you intend to complete for the next 30 days. And watch her smile!!

Those are just a few ideas off the top of my head. There are numerous others so be creative and put a smile on your mother’s dial over the coming days and weeks.
